A member of the Democratic Party, Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee for president in the 2020 election. He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988 and in 2008.

Secret Service security around Joe Biden is reportedly being stepped up - with campaign insiders saying he will make a major speech today.

The Democrat, who is in pole position to win the US election, has been at the Wilmington Convention Center in Delaware as the count goes into its third day.

As incumbent Donald Trump continues to stir up anger and undermine the voting process, Biden has attempted to turn down the temperature and called for calm.
