Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool "kidded" Chelsea by selling them Fernando Torres for £50m, claiming that the Spanish striker was a "shadow of his former self" by the time of the 2011 transfer.

Torres lit up the Premier League with the Reds, scoring 65 goals in just 102 Premier League appearances and forming a potent partnership with Steven Gerrard.

However, he never replicated this form for Chelsea after his lucrative January move to Stamford Bridge, scoring just one league goal for the Blues in the 14 remaining games of the season.

And Carragher claims that the Blues were duped into buying Torres by his performance against them earlier in the campaign. "I couldn’t believe it.
