John Simm plays Detective Superintendent Roy Grace in the TV adaptation by screenwriter and Endeavour creator Russell Lewis.
The first film will witness Grace at rock bottom with his career falling apart, with him fixated on the disappearance of his wife Sally.
With his career on the line, his colleague Detective Sergeant Glenn Branson, played by actor Richie Campbell, knows he still has more in him as a detective and decides to ask for his help in solving a case.
