A public health chief has reported a 'slightly worrying' increase in the number of private cars and vehicles recorded out on roads and motorways during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
Professor Yvonne Doyle, medical director at Public Health England, spoke at Wednesday's daily coronavirus press conference at Downing Street.
The government has urged the public to avoid all non-essential travel. But Prof Doyle, speaking about changes in transport and traffic volume together with a graphic, said the 'use of motor vehicles' on Monday was the highest since the lockdown began.
