Servicemen forced to take part in nuclear tests have been told they will not receive a medal, a decision declared a “terrible injustice” by the son of one of the veterans.
A medal review set up in 2018 rejected calls for the nuclear test heroes to be honoured, ruling: “Service in an austere environment did not, of itself, amount to the rigour deserving of a medal.” The Mirror is calling on Boris Johnson to step in and reverse the decision.
Backing our appeal, Labour leader Keir Starmer said: “These servicemen were placed in huge danger, and many have suffered throughout their lives. “The Prime Minister should personally intervene to ensure these heroes are recognised.
