The UK's inflation rate fell in August after Brits took advantage of 100million discounted meals through Eat Out to Help Out.
The cost of living tumbled to 0.2% in August from 1% in July, the Office for National Statistics said on Wednesday - marking the lowest rate since December 2015.
It said the sharp drop was also due to fewer people travelling abroad over summer due to rising coronavirus cases and quarantine measures abroad.
This contributed to a rise in UK summer staycation breaks. Jonathan Athow, deputy national statistician at the ONS, said: "The cost of dining out fell significantly in August thanks to the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme and VAT cut, leading to one of the largest falls in the annual inflation rate in recent years."
