Independent Autopsy Shows George Floyd Was Asphyxiated

By Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer An independent autopsy commissioned by the family of George Floyd indicates that he was asphyxiated, and that the death was a homicide.

The conclusion is at odds with the preliminary results of the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s review. The medical examiner said there was no physical evidence of asphyxia, and suggested that his death was the result of the combined effects of the police restraint, underlying medical conditions and possible intoxication.

Floyd, 46, died on May 25. Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin pinned Floyd under his knee for nearly night minutes, while Floyd was handcuffed.
