Bizarre footage has emerged of hundreds of birds mysteriously resting on a ship deck and refusing to take off. Crew members of the "Vitus Bering" cargo ship encountered the incident recently as they docked in the far eastern city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in the Russian region of Sakhalin Oblast.
Hundreds of dark greyish seabirds known as petrels were seen gathering on the deck and struggling to move on land. In the footage taken by one of the crew members, dozens of the birds can be seen stuck on the ship’s deck as the man says: "There are [...].
You can’t even count them, they are everywhere." Russian media state the birds are believed to have been distracted by the ship’s lights and landed on it as it was heading towards the port.
