Huawei banned from UK’s 5G network with all kit to be removed

5G network from the end of the year and all equipment will be removed by 2027, the government has confirmed.Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden made the announcement in the House of Commons today.

Telecomms companies will be told not to buy any new Huawei 5G equipment from December 31.Huawei technology in 3G, 4G and fibreoptic broadband infrastructure will remain in place.

However, new restrictions are being applied to use of the company's broadband kit, and the government wants operators to “transition away” from purchasing Huawei equipment in the full-fibre network.

The ban will delay the UK's full rollout of 5G by years, and the transition to an alternative may cost hundreds of millions.There were widespread concerns over Huawei’s links to.
