Lockdown really made us think about making the most of the space. We wanted a sociable area where we could relax and entertain, with the flexibility to switch the seating and dining areas over.
The original plan was just to level the back area; then it snowballed, and my husband Ed (a TV executive producer) decided to take on the whole space.
I don’t think either of us knew exactly what we were letting ourselves in for, but once we started, we couldn’t go back.Tons of soil and rubble had to be removed (through the house), and then tons of materials for the terrace, raised beds and planting had to come in (through the house again).
