A gunman has opened fire at a funeral in Chicago with 14 people shot and eyewitnesses reporting seeing "bodies lying everywhere".
Occupants of a vehicle opened fire on the funeral attendees in the city's South Side on Tuesday evening and attendees began firing back, police have said.
Some 60 shell casings were found at the scene, in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, and one person is in custody, First Deputy Superintendent Eric Carter said at a news conference.
Fourteen victims were being treated at five hospitals, he said, adding that their conditions were not yet known. Carter confirmed a squad car was assigned to the funeral after police were informed a retaliatory strike could take place.
