Super Furry Animals have revealed that they sold their trademark tank from the 1990s to Don Henley from The Eagles.The Welsh band first bought the tank with the promotional budget that they were given in 1996 when they were releasing the single ‘If You Don’t Want Me to Destroy You’, the fourth single from their debut album ‘Fuzzy Logic’.The band painted the tank blue and generally used it to get to music festivals at the time. The vehicle was also used as the cover art for the single, with the song’s title painted on the gun barrel and the band’s name printed on the side.But in a new interview in The Guardian, the band’s frontman Gruff Rhys was asked by a fan named qwertychucha, “What happened to the tank?”“They were confiscating sound systems after the criminal justice bill [became law], so we put ours in a tank,” he replied.

Gruff Rhys has this week (September 3) unveiled details of a new album, Sadness Sets Me Free’.The album was previewed with new track, ‘Celestial Candyfloss’, which you can listen to below. Speaking about the new track, Rhys said it is “an attempted pocket symphony about the cosmic lengths that people will travel in the pursuit of love and acceptance.“Mark James has brought the Sadness Sets Me Free album cover to life & managed to place me watching TV interference in a shipping container that’s lost in space.

Super Furry Animals have shared their first ever recorded song that features vocals from actor Rhys Ifans.The song – ‘Of No Fixed Identity – has remained in the band’s archives for almost 30 years but is now available on Bandcamp for a limited time.Before Gruff Rhys took over vocals, Ifans fronted the Welsh band. Super Furry Animals have called on the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) to revoke the licence granted to EDF – which they claim has resulted in nuclear mud dumping in the Severn Estuary.In 2018, a group of activists took EDF to court to stop 300,000 tonnes of alleged nuclear mud from a Somerset power station being disposed of just outside Cardiff. Now, the Welsh indie veterans have picked up the cause again.“We call on @The_MMO to stop EDF’s nuclear mud dumping,” the band tweeted on February 12.

Super Furry Animals have announced the release of their first ever NFT to mark the reissue of their album ‘Rings Around The World’.The release comes as part of a host of 20th anniversary celebrations for the album, all set to take place across this week.On Wednesday (September 2), the band will launch new TV station SFA TV via their YouTube page for one night only.The ‘satellite broadcast’ will begin at 8pm BST and feature the premiere of a documentary about the making of ‘Rings Around The World’, a screening of the HD video for single ‘Receptacle for the Respectable’ with commentary by Pete Fowler, and a TV special about the album, hosted by the Welsh Music Podcast.Then, on September 3, the band will sell its first ever NFT.
