Glastonbury Festival-goers have been warned of "heavy showers and thunderstorms" over the weekend.Revellers ought to make the most of the current sunshine and balmy highs of 27C on Wednesday as the Met Office says it will not last through to Sam Fender and Billie Eilish's respective Friday night sets.As gates to the world's most legendary music festival swing open to campers dressed in summer clobber, they are unlikely to leave on Monday feeling so warm and dry.In a statement issued by the Met Office, Deputy Meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “You should plan for both sunhats and raincoats for this year’s festival.” A shift in conditions over Somerset will be felt on Friday with cooler air taking over as rain clouds move in.
Helen added: “There will be plenty of sunshine on Wednesday across the South West, although there could be a bit more cloud later in the day, and temperatures will reach 26C or 27C.
The dry, sunny and warm theme will continue through Thursday.“However, from Friday onwards the weather will become more unsettled.
There is a risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms in the Glastonbury area on both Friday and Saturday, although these should be quick moving, some surface water might accumulate at times."Some consolation however is that while wellies may be in order over the weekend, it won't actually get that chilly for west country standards. "Temperatures will start to dip as we go through the end of the week returning to near normal for the time of year," Helen continued. "With highs likely around 18-20C.“Sunday is expected to be mostly dry and bright at first but with showers once again developing through the morning, some of which could be heavy, and possibly thundery," she said."The unsettled pattern.
