dog has had life-saving surgery after eating 3ft of Christmas tinsel.The Great Dane, called Dexter, mistook the festive decorations for food.His owners realised what he had done after they noticed a strip of tinsel was missing from their mantelpiece.They raced to the vet where the 10-year-old mutt had an x-ray which confirmed he had swallowed the decoration.Staff at the PDSA clinic in Margate, Kent rushed him straight into emergency surgery.A 3ft strip of red tinsel was miraculously pulled from his stomach in one long piece.The poorly pooch is now recovering at home after the ordeal.Vet Kate Milroy said: "Dexter needed to be taken straight in for emergency surgery, it was clearly causing a blockage and would be fatal if we didn’t remove it.
