Government officials may ask Uber and Deliveroo to deliver food to OAPs as coronavirus panic-buying leaves shelves empty, according to reports.
The Prime Minister’s top adviser, Dominic Cummings, is believed to have opened talks with the takeaway giants in a bid to keep the elderly and vulnerable in isolation, according to ITV's political editor Robert Peston.
It comes amid leaked reports that pubs will be forced to close next week as COVID-19 tears through Britain. The temporary closure of pubs, bars and restaurants is one of a series of measures being prepared by Downing Street to protect the healthcare system against total collapse.
