Coronavirus: Government urged to put an end to 'anonymous and speculative' briefings

Keir Starmer has called for an end to “anonymous and speculative” briefings from government sources on coronavirus. The Labour leadership contender called on Number 10 to agree to daily press conferences to ensure the public have the latest information.

And he urged the Government to provide “openness and transparency, not confusion and uncertainty” in its response to the coronavirus.

It comes after parts of the Government’s action plan were briefed to ITV’s political editor Robert Peston by an unnamed government source.
