Boris Johnson has refused calls to U-turn and keep NHS workers' free parking after the coronavirus pandemic. Ministers prompted outrage when they warned free parking for hospital workers in England, which has been funded by government since March, "cannot continue indefinitely".
As Tory peer Nicky Morgan hinted at a possible U-turn, the Prime Minister faced calls to keep the policy for good. But today the Tory leader refused to guarantee free parking for hospital staff will continue in England after the pandemic.
Instead, Mr Johnson said that while free parking exists "now", he will push ahead with different plans to make it free for some staff and patients, but not all.
