Up to 65 per cent of permanent staff working at the St Ann’s Square venue could lose their jobs due to the ‘monumental’ impact of the Covid-19 lockdown.
With live performances still prohibited under lockdown, bosses say they have no other choice but to scale back the organisation ‘in order to survive’.Last week Manchester council warned that redundancies would follow at other venues in the city without an intervention from the government.The significant funding package announced on Sunday will aim to preserve struggling cultural and heritage institutions across the UK and protect jobs.
