A mum says her daughter is devastated at missing out on a place at her nearest high school. Rylie O'Neill lives just a two-minute walk from Wardle Academy so she and her mum Lindsey Pawson had 'been certain' she would be offered a place there - so much so that it was the only school they put on her application.

But when Lindsey got the email on National Offer Day on Monday, she was stunned to read that Rylie, 11, did not get in - and has instead been offered a place at Oulder Hill Community School, which is a 40-minute bus journey away.

It comes after Wardle, which is now an academy school, amended its admissions policy for September 2020, which means children from primary schools within the Wardle Academy Trust get priority over distance.
