An Australian newspaper has lot its appeal to stop a record $2.9million (or £1.57million) defamation payout to actor Geoffrey Rush.
Nationwide News, a publisher owned by Rupert Murdoch, had challenged a decision from April 2019 that found their articles about Rush to be not credible.
Sydney's Daily Telegraph had run stories accusing Mr Rush of inappropriate behaviour towards a former theatre co-star - claims the actor denies.
On Thursday, the Federal Court upheld the 2019 ruling that Mr Rush had been portrayed as a sexual predator and a 'pervert' with the publisher losing its appeal against the judgement and the payout.
