Gareth Malone has emerged from his garden studio man cave to chat about his latest hit show – but he’s on a slight post-project comedown. “I desperately needed a focus to get me through lockdown, but it’s strange because I’ve gone from being frantically busy to just me and the guitar again.
And it’s raining and a bit grey,” he says. He is speaking from his North London home, where he lives with his teacher wife Becky, nine-year-old daughter Esther, seven-year-old son Gilbert and 18-month-old Dvora.
Since Gareth, 44, hit our screens in 2007 and made choirs cool, he has been dubbed The Choirmaster, making rousing music from the unlikeliest of groups, including hospital staff, prisoners, veterans and military wives.
