Drivers can now update their licence online instead of having to wait six weeks for an update from the DVLA, the government has announced.

A new online portal will allow motorists who move home to amend their details - including a new address - in just five minutes.

The DVLA said the online service will allow customers to update the address on both their driving licence and log book online.

It said failing to update a new address when you move home could result in a £1,000 on the spot fine. As well as driving licences, around 1.5million vehicle log books are also updated with a new address every year.
