Serie A side Messina are for sale for a mere 85p as the Italian club face a race against time to save their future.The Sicilian outfit sent shockwaves around Italy back in 2004 after securing a surprise promotion to Serie A for the first time in forty years.

However, their footballing fairytale is endanger of having anything but a happy ending.Against all odds, Messina secured a stunning 7th-placed finish under Bortolo Mutti in their first top-flight campaign since 1965 before narrowly beating the drop the following season.

However, come the end of the 2006-07 campaign, the Giallorossi's remarkable run in Serie A was over. The Italian outfit were relegated and a financial crisis began crippling the club.Such was the extent of Messina's monetary woes that they were booted out of Serie B before being left with no choice but to file for bankruptcy in 2008.

Currently down in Serie C and on the cusp of extinction, the club's president Pietro Sciotti has issue a desperate plea, urging potential buyers to step up a save the Sicilians.Not only that, but he's asking for as little as 85p in exchange for the former Serie A side before this weekend's deadline.
