Everton and Real Madrid star Roysten Drenthe was declared bankrupt aged 33 after losing a whopping £3million.These days Drenthe, now 34, plies his trade for Real Murcia in the fourth-tier of Spanish football - a far cry from his days at the top.
During the peak of his career, the Dutchman would've earned good money as a team-mate of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema at Los Blancos.
But despite five seasons at the Bernabeu - one of which he spent on loan at Everton - Drenthe was declared penniless in December 2020.Not that he seemed to care too much.
The bankruptcy ruling was passed at a court in Breda, with the midfielder not present at the hearing. "I don't know the ins and outs and I don't know exactly what's going on, but if this is what I think it is, it's not that important," he told Dutch outlet voetbalzone at the time. "I am always under a magnifying glass, but it will be resolved as it should."Drenthe previously stated that he had lost a staggering £3.2million earned during what should have been a profitable football career.Do you remember Roysten Drenthe during his heyday?
