pike fly box and tying a few extras as a gift for my boat partner when we’re out next. He’s got the bug for toothy critters and I’m always keen to sew the seeds for fishing trips down the line when we’re wrapped up like the Michelin man to keep out the cold.Sitting with a coffee watching some Tim Borski or Barry Reynolds while you’re tying is a fair substitute when you chicken out of a day in the rain.
When you’re tying up pike flies, there’s plenty of scope for experiment but a couple of things set in stone. First, I’ll make sure there’s some offcut carpet under the desk as the mix of epoxy, deer hair, flashabou and saddle hackles never goes down well unless it’s contained and tidied up.
