One of south Manchester's main roads was closed following a blaze close to a firework shop. Three fire engines were scrambled to Wilbraham Road in Chorlton at 5pm.
Witnesses described how firemen used an aerial ladder to get access to the fire which was said to be in the roof space of a domestic property. Firefighters were still at the scene by 7pm. Eye-witnesses reported firefighters cutting through the roof tiles to get access to the blaze, which was said to be close to a firework shop.
