Tory ministers face a furious backlash after leaving more than a million people out of this week's public sector pay rise - and warning they'll face "restraint" in future.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak today unveiled pay rises of 2% to 3.1% this year for 900,000 workers including doctors, teachers and police officers.
But hours later, he declared "we must exercise restraint in future" and keep "parity" with private sector pay - which is set to stall due to coronavirus.
That has prompted fears for the vast number of key workers who were not part of today's pay rise pledge. More than a million NHS staff including nurses, porters and cleaners were not included in today's pledge because they are already part of 'Agenda for Change' - a three-year pay
