The legendary former Vogue and Harper's Bazaar editor understood the escapist potential of fashion; now's the time to revisit her wisdom There are many good books either expressly about fashion or ones in which clothes play a substantial role in scene and character setting, but some, like Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth, are a bit bleak, albeit exquisitely so.
However, if you’re looking for something both escapist and delightfully enlightening, I recommend D.V., Diana Vreeland’s 1984 autobiography (and following up with The Eye Has To Travel, the excellent 2011 documentary on Amazon Prime).
You can buy used copies of D.V. on amazon.co.uk. I frequently return to my copy, with its glossy red cover - her favourite colour.
