Cops are hunting a pair of drug couriers who dumped their £500,000 stash and managed to evade officers. Police "stumbled” on a handover of cocaine between two men last weekend.

But the suspects realised they'd been spotted and abandoned their car and got away from cops on foot.Sources said it is believed they also ditched the drugs which were contained in a black bag.Police seized the silver Peugeot after it was left at the corner of Beeches Road in Duntocher, Clydebank, last Saturday.Insiders say the drugs – understood to be 10kg (22lb) of cocaine – belonged to a crime family from the area. One local said: "There was a loud screeching and the car stopped and two young guys got out."One of them was carrying a large black bin bag that was rammed full of something heavy."It was so heavy he struggled to carry it.

They ran in different directions."Within minutes, the police cordoned the area off while they searched the car and surrounding area but no one was found."A source said: "It's believed the men were in the middle of dropping drugs off."They spotted police passing them and thought they'd been rumbled."The driver knew he had to get them as far away from them as possible."They took off at speed along streets he appeared to know well."They managed to lose them and then ditch the car and the drugs.

It's a miracle they didn't get caught."A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are carrying out inquiries after a car was found abandoned in the Beeches Road area of Duntocher at 6.55pm on Saturday."
