A former MP has slammed Kellogg's for using a monkey to represent the cereal Coco Pops. Coco the Monkey has been the mascot of the popular cereal since 1986, although a monkey was used to represent what was then Cocoa Krispies in the US in the 1950s.
But the choice of a monkey as the cereal's mascot has been criticised by former Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya. Ms Onasanya, who was jailed for three months in January 2019 after she was convicted of lying to police about a speeding ticket, asked Kellogg's why they chose a monkey for the chocolate-flavoured cereal, but 'three white boys' for Rice Krispies.
