Having coasted to a third Premier League title in four seasons, figures responsible for incomings and outgoings at the Etihad Stadium broke the £100million barrier to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
They were, however, unable to complete a follow-up pursuit for England captain Harry Kane. Tottenham priced the three-time 'Golden Boot' winner out of a dream switch and, as a result, the 28-year-old then had to reluctantly pledge his future to the north Londoners.
Following the appointment of Antonio Conte in the dugout, the chances of City revisiting Kane as a target further down the line appear to have been extinguished, too.
