The last remaining pub on a Bury council estate could be demolished to make way for apartments. The Lord Clive in Whitefield closed in January despite a campaign from residents to rescue it.
Brewery bosses blamed the decision on 'difficult trading conditions', while customers and its landlady claimed a lack of investment had led to a drop in footfall.
Locals described the boozer as the hub of the community, with many left devastated by its closure. Plans to build 27 apartments on the site, in Mersey Drive, have now been submitted to Bury Council.
Under the proposals, developer Onward Housing Association hopes to demolish the pub to make way for a three-storey apartment block.
