'Emergency repairs' carried out on burst water main 'washing away' bridge

Bolton between Darwen Road and Eagley Way is being worked on after the water main first burst yesterday afternoon, March 2. United Utilities staff were at the scene throughout the afternoon to fix the main, but 'emergency repairs' continue today as water remains gushing out and the road damaged, according to Transport for Greater Manchester and traffic service Inrix.Congestion is building through the area around Dunscar Business Park, Tonge Moor Road, Turton Road and through Bradshaw.

An eyewitness tells the Manchester Evening News that the water main 'gave way' and unleashed a torrent of water 'washing away the road' yesterday, leading to the damage seen in images from the scene today.
