The head of the English Football League has put on record his opposition to Premier League B teams entering the football pyramid.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, whose first title as a manager came with Barcelona B in the Spanish Fourth Division, has long bemoaned the uncompetitive nature of academy football in England.
And while a throwaway comment about the benefits of playing in the lower divisions each week after dishing out six debuts in the 6-1 win over Wycombe last month wasn't intended as a realistic proposal, it was angrily seized upon by those that could be impacted by such a drastic change as the latest attempted power grab from elite clubs.
