EastEnders actress Gillian Taylforth has opened up about the moment she was told her character Kathy Beale was being killed off.
The 64-year-old was part of a number of groundbreaking storylines since her first appearance in 1985, including her harrowing rape at the hands of James Willmott-Brown and romance with Phil Mitchell.
Kathy left Walford in 1998 after moving to South Africa with her son Ben. She returned for a few guest stints over the next two years.
However, Gillian admitted that she was upset after hearing that her character would be killed off-screen in a road collision in 2006 to allow son Ben to return to Albert Square.
