DWP issues update on assessments for Universal Credit, PIP, DLA, ESA claimants

Thousands of benefit claimants could be called back in for face-to-face assessments this month, as new changes following the three month suspension come into force.

The Department for Work and Pensons (DWP) said in-person assessments which are used to calculate payment levels for those on health and disability benefits, could restart for those on disability benefits from July.

On March 16, the Government announced that face-to-face assessments would be suspended for the next three months. Assessments were instead done over the phone or on the basis of written evidence.

The temporary move, which came into effect on Tuesday March 17, 2020, affected those on Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Employment
