Up to 75 serving and former special forces soldiers have brain injuries from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Special Air Service and Special Boat Service members have been medically downgraded or forced to leave because of their condition.
The disclosure comes after we revealed last week that thousands of our troops suffer from traumatic brain injuries after being hurt in a blast.
We also revealed how three SAS officers flew to the US for treatment because none was available here. But many more avoid seeking help for fear of losing their prospects, according to one serving SAS soldier.
He told us: “If you seek help for a brain injury, you can kiss your career goodbye. You will be medically downgraded and that will be it.
