It comes after MPs in key areas where there has been a surge of the Indian variant - which includes Bolton, Leicester, Kirklees, Hounslow, Bedford, Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley and North Tyneside - have called for further support amid confusion as to whether further restrictions are being imposed.
New guidance, which was published online on Friday, had adivsed against all but essential travel in the eight Covid hotspots.
