Danniella Westbrook has publicly defended her friend Russell Brand after a number of allegations emerged last week accusing him of rape, sexual assault and abuse, claiming that he is a "target of lies".The 49 year old TV personality and former EastEnders star immediately jumped to support her longtime pal in the wake of the allegations, which were claimed to have taken place between 2006 and 2013 against five women.
Russell, 48, vehemently denies all allegations and says every sexual relationship he has ever had has been completely consensual.
Danniella branded the allegations "disgusting" and told followers that the Russell she knows is "helpful, kind and funny". She also claimed that the reason the allegations have come out now, having been made public following a joint investigation by Channel 4's Dispatches and The Times, which released the documentary Russell Brand: In Plain Sight on September 16, is because the Hollywood actor has begun to question the agendas of the government and the media in recent years.
The accused star has been known for his controversial posts and views in his Instagram videos, and responding to his denial video, Danniella sent her love and support. "It's disgusting what's being said about you," the actress told him. "Never in my life have I met a more helpful, kind and funny person. "Because you speak the truth and question agendas of certain things it doesn't make you a target to be lied about.
