Daniele De Rossi has admitted that he was put off signing for Manchester United because they were so strong in midfield. The 36-year-old, who recently retired after a brief spell with Argentinean giants Boca Juniors, made 616 appearances for Roma over 17 seasons.
He also won the World Cup with Italy in 2006 and was regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation. The Roma legend was linked with a move away from the Eternal City on several occasions with United and Manchester City credited with an interest.
