Barcelona defender Dani Alves has used a bizarre analogy to explain why he decided to leave Sao Paulo in favour of a return to the Camp Nou.The Brazilian was Xavi’s first signing as Barca boss earlier this season, having spent eight years at the club previously.

He has added plenty of experience into the dressing room at the club, though he has also made eight appearances for the La Liga side.Speaking about why, at 38, he decided to move back to Barcelona, Dani Alves explained how he was enjoying success with the Brazilian Olympic team yet struggling to break into the Sao Paulo team.

Speaking on a documentary on Fifa+, he explained: “I started to think a lot if we were doing well because when you start having beautiful moments, in different places, you start comparing a good thing and a bad thing.“Then you say: 'Man, the bee doesn't have time to teach the fly that honey is better than s***'.” It’s certainly a new phrase, almost poetic, but whether it catches on or not remains to be seen.Alves went on to speak of how he had almost dreamt of returning to Brazil after a career in Europe, though it wasn’t quite the fairy-tale return to South America that he hoped for due to numerous issues.

He said: “I went through several phases in Sao Paulo, which discredited me that it would be worth it to be at the club.“I made the decision to go to Sao Paulo to fulfil a dream and thinking that we could build something together.” Frustratingly, off the pitch issues and wage disagreements meant that Alves terminated his contract at the club, according to ESPN.“We planned this, but the strategy that had convinced me to come began to fail.
