Dan Walker has admitted he feels "embarrassed" about how much money he earns to do a job he loves. The former BBC Breakfast presenter was 18th on the corporation's highest paid list when it was revealed last year, pocketing a salary of around £295,000.

But Dan, who is now taking up a new role at Channel 5, has confessed that he isn't that comfortable with how much he makes. Speaking to the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine, he said he didn't grow up in a family with money and was aware that some people are having a tough time financially these days, "I hate talking about money," said the father-of-three."I feel uncomfortable that I get paid a lot to do a job I love," added Dan, admitting it was "awful" the first time a national newspaper published what he earned on the front page.

The former Strictly contestant went on: "I am embarrassed by the amount I earn. My parents had no money growing up. All my clothes were hand-me-downs.

At a time when people are struggling to put food on the table, it's horrible to have your salary on the front page."The star, 45, said that there were people in his own family who were struggling with the cost of living in the current climate.Dan announced earlier this year that he was leaving BBC Breakfast for Channel 5, where he will front a revamped version of the 5pm news programme. He later said on BBC Breakfast that "sometimes opportunities come along and you have to grab them"."I've never ever been motivated by money in any job that I've ever taken, and even though I've loved working at BBC Breakfast and everybody who works on the show, this is a fantastic opportunity to work with a brilliant team at Channel 5," he explained.
