A dad self-isolated in a camper van next to his house due to coronavirus fears – but told his four-year-old daughter he was in Africa.

Conservationist Julian Bayliss claimed he was stranded in Ethiopia during daily Skype calls with daughter Poppy because she was too young to understand coronavirus.

But he was really just 300 metres from their farmhouse in Wrexham, the BBC reports. Professor Bayliss, 50, took the unusual step after being forced to self-isolate with Covid-19 symptoms on his return from a trip to Africa.

He told how his mum brought lunch to his caravan every day while he used a drone to watch over Poppy, 4, and her mum. Heartwarming footage shows the moment Dr Bayliss was reunited with Poppy on Thursday.
