Dominic Cummings could accuse Boris Johnson of skipping emergency Covid-19 meetings because he was busy writing a biography of Shakespeare, officials reportedly fear.

And the Times reports Cabinet Office officials fear ex-top aide Mr Cummings will use his appearance before a committee of MPs to reap revenge on his former boss - claiming the PM needed to deliver the book to fund his divorce.

The Prime Minister missed five key COBRA meetings during a critical period at the start of the Coronavirus crisis, as the virus began to take its grip on the country.

Instead they were led by Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who said after the first, on January 24, that the scientific advice was the risk to the British public was “low”.
