Crowds return as Manchester honours war dead in poignant Remembrance Sunday service

Manchester fell silent to honour the country's war dead at the annual Remembrance Sunday commemoration this morning. The event had added poignancy as numbers of those attending were able to return to pre-pandemic levels at the Cenotaph in St Peter's Square.

Civic dignitaries, servicemen and women, service and ex-service organisations, faith leaders and uniformed organisations came to pay their respects along with members of the public in the city centre.

Among those to lay a wreath were Mayor Andy Burnham and Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police Stephen Watson. The Remembrance Day procession started at 10:25am on John Dalton Street with the Parade then marching into St.
