Manchester United star, whose full name is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, was born in Funchal, the capital of Portuguese island Madeira.

He is the fourth child of Maria Dolores dos Santos Viveiros da Aveiro and José Dinis Aveiro, who were both keen on Reagan.Reagan went into politics with the Republican Party after a career in film and television and it appears that is where Ronaldo owes his now-famous name to. “My parents named me after [Ronald Reagan] because they both liked this name and thought it sounded strong,” Ronaldo told GQ in 2016. “I know that my father admired him.”Ronaldo’s father José used to play football for Madeira club Andorinha alongside Fernao Barros Sousa.Sousa, who was asked to become the boy’s godfather, has told an amusing story of the day of his baptism. In the Goal documentary ‘Cristiano Ronaldo: The Making Of’, Ronaldo’s godfather revealed how the baptism very nearly did not happen – all because of football. "That day, Andorinha were playing in Ribera Brava, so I was going there, Dinis as well, and we arrived much later at the baptism, so late that the priest didn’t want to baptise him!" he said in the film. "We had to convince the priest to baptise him and that’s what happened.”Sousa also relays the story about Reagan, suggesting it was his mother’s idea.Want to be on the ball with all of the latest football news?Well then sign up for the brilliant Daily Star football email newsletter! From the latest transfer news to the agenda-setting stories, get it all in your email inbox - don't miss a thing. It only takes a matter of seconds.Simply type your email address into the box at the top of this article and hit 'subscribe'.And that's it, job done.
