Best known for her How To Train Your Dragon series, the author and illustrator, 54, is the current Waterstones Children’s Laureate.
She lives in London with her husband Simon and three children.I spent a great deal of time as a child on a tiny, uninhabited island off the west coast of Scotland.
The island had no roads or electricity. The house was lit by candlelight, and there was no telephone or television, so I spent a lot of time drawing, writing stories and reading anything I could get my hands on.
I loved books about magic.Children are naturally creative and imaginative thinkers, but can get put off writing by the corrective red pen.
