Coronavirus in dogs: Experts explain your pet's risk of catching the virus

This week, coronavirus cases in the UK have risen to 51, leading to widespread panic about the spread of the virus. The virus is thought to have originated in animals , so it’s unsurprising that many pet owners are worried about their pet catching it.

To put your mind at ease, experts from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have revealed their advice for pet owners.

They explained: “While this virus seems to have emerged from an animal source, it is now spreading from person-to-person in China. “There is no reason to think that any animals […] might be a source of infection with this new coronavirus.” Last week, a dog in Hong Kong tested weakly positive for coronavirus, despite having no symptoms.
