Born Cathryn Helen Wigglesworth to parents Alfred and Gladys, the star grew up in Morecambe, Lancashire - later adopting her middle name as her stage name.Her parents and grandparents were supportive of her career in the arts, with her grandmother running a boarding house for music hall performers - which inspired Helen to become an actor herself.However, Helen experienced tragedy after the death of her mother in a hit and run accident when she was just 20 years old.Speaking to Daily Star, the actress revealed her sadness that her mother never got to see her in her role as Gail, saying that she wished she could have told her."The one person I really wanted to tell when I got the part of Gail was my mother," said Helen."She would have been so thrilled.
