Children as young as four are being sent home from school on a daily basis for attacking teachers and pupils. Figures show suspensions and expulsions are now the worst on record and have more than doubled in the past six years.
Every day 50 of the nation's youngest pupils, between Reception age and Year 2, are being kicked out of class. And a Freedom of Information request to the Department of Education shows an additional 3,481 children were sent home for attacking other pupils in the 190 school days in 2018/19.
Attacks on staff include anything from threatening behaviour and obstruction to jostling and wounding. In 2008/09 just 2,880 children were suspended or expelled for attacks on teachers but that number has risen every year since.
